B-type Natriuretic (BNP) Peptide LabCorp

B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) test (also known as brain natriuretic peptide) is a 32-amino-acid peptide that contains a 17-amino-acid ring structure which forms as a result of an internal disulfide bond. BNP is predominantly secreted by the heart ventricles as a response to more pressure. It acts a vasodilator and has diuretic and natriuretic properties. These responses help reduce intraventricular pressure and improve symptoms of congestive heart failure. BNP levels typically increase with age and can rise with intense physical activity.
