MUC16, also known as CA 125 is a biomarker which may be elevated in the bloodstream of some patients who have certain types of cancer. This test is typically ordered to track the progress of patients with cancer in the female reproductive tract. Elevations into his marker may be due to pregnancy, benign diseases, or other malignancies. Patient's family history and other clinical diagnostic findings should also be assessed.
