The Deoxycorticosterone test is useful for the diagnosis of suspected 11-hydroxylase deficiency, including differential diagnosis of 11 beta-hydroxylase 1 versus 11 beta-hydroxylase 2. It may also aid in the diagnosis of glucorticoide-responsive hyperaldosteronism. This test has also been useful in the evaluation of newborns who have screened positive for congenital adrenal hyperplasia. When they also show moderately elevated 17-hydroxyprogesterone, this may suggest possible 11-hydroxylase deficiency.
